The most common are
UPS and USPS (US Postal Service): these modules actually contact UPS or USPS, sending a weight value and shipping address to get an exact shipping price, which is then displayed to the customer and added to the order total.
These require that you have an account with UPS or USPS. As you add products to your catalog, you must enter a weight for each product. If you already added products to your catalog without weights, you’ll need to go back and edit each product to include a weight value.
Follow the detailed instructions in each module to ensure proper configuration.
Table Rate: this is a very useful option if you don’t know the weight of your products. This will calculate a shipping price based on either total weight, price or number of items in the order. Set a shipping fee for various price ranges.
Here’s an example:
25:3.50,50:5.50,10000:10.00
There are 3 price ranges here,
the 1st number is the order total, then a colon, then the shipping price.
25:3.50 (This says that any order up to $25 gets charged $3.50 shipping)
50:5.50 (Orders from $25.01 to $50 get charged $5.50 shipping)
10000:10.00 (Orders from $50.01 to $10,000 get charged $10 shipping)
Create as many price ranges as you wish, just be sure to separate each with a comma.
Set the Table Method to tell it to calculate the shipping cost based on total price weight or number of items in the order.
Set the Tax class, usually none, no need to charge tax on shipping for stores based in the USA..
The Shipping Zone allows you to activate this options for customers in a specific geographic area.
Store Pickup: set the shipping zone so that only customers in your geographic zone can see this option. Set a shipping cost if you want to charge people to pick up items from your store.
Flat Rate: this will charge the same amount for shipping, no matter how much or how little a customer orders.
Per Item: this adds a shipping fee to each item, always the same, no matter the price or weight of the item. So if your per item fee is $1.00 and a customer orders 3 items, they will pay $3 in shipping.
